Labcold were approached by Moyra O’Shea, the Specialist Vaccine Technician for NHS Tayside who was worried about the number of non- compliant refrigerators being used for the storage of temperature sensitive vaccines.

As the Specialist Vaccine Technician she was concerned that many of the Health Centres and GP Surgeries across Tayside were not usng fridges that met the regulations.Claire Cossar from Labcold met with Moyra to discuss the benefits of the Labcold IntelliCold® range of pharmacy Refrigerators.

Uniquely, Labcold can calibrate refrigerators before they leave the factory, giving users the peace of mind that the temperatures displayed on the front of the fridge are the same as those inside. End users are provided with a certificate to prove that this has been done by UKAS traceable equipment. They also automatically recorded temperature data and fridge function and this information can be downloaded via an encoded SD card and stored on a PC, making it easy to store the data for the required 10 years.

The other requirement was for wire mesh shelves rather than glass so that the air inside the chamber could circulate freely among the product.

The consultation resulted in a replacement scheme for old, non-compliant refrigerators with vaccine fridges from the Labcold IntelliCold® range. To date, more than 20 fridges have been replaced.
